Pledge of Allegiance
Motion to waive the reading of minutes.
PRINCIPALS REPORT
5th grade parents orientation on May 26.
Moving up Academic Ceremony on June 2nd. Moving up ceremony is based on team: 8A at 9:00am, 8B at 11:00am. This way works best for parents/sibling and families to be able to attend.
PTA is making a contribution to the school. A “PA system” for the gym will be installed using the funds. An initial inspection showed that the infrastructure is in good shape and the money from the PTA will be sufficient to do the following:

AB switch system

Wireless microphones
-
Increase the number of speakers
-
Access remote for volume control
The teachers are very excited about the installation. The cost is between $4200 - $4500. $5000 was allotted by the PTA to cover the cost plus any overages.
June 14th will be a half day of school. Dismissal by 10:50. A calendar will be sent home with specifics on schedule for the rest of the school year.
The budget passes and Teresa Knox and Louis Ligouri were reelected to the board of ed.
Physical Education will be altered in some way alternating with a study Hall on alternate days.
ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL REPORT
The April/May testing is completed. 8th grade field tests given in ELS, Social Studies and Science.
Dr. Simmons and Mr. McNeil will speak with 8th graders during lunch period next week about behavior during the end of the school year.
PRESIDENTS REPORT
Superintendents report – Nesaquake and Accompsett are being used for pilot program “Too Good for Drugs”. It is a 10 week block, once a week, meeting with the kids talking about how to handle situations by using role playing scenarios.
Parent University workshops are in the works for next year.
Teacher Appreciation Day went very well. Many teachers gave thanks and sent thank you notes.
1st VP Fundraising REPORT
Sports night was very successful.
The most successful fundraiser this year was Yankee Candle.
Clothing drive was also very successful. Well over 1000 pounds of clothing was collected.
Tickets for the 8th grade dance are $12.
TREASURERS REPORT
$18,231.42 end of year balance.
COMMITTEE CHAIR REPORTS
Board of Ed will begin new policy meeting.
Health and Wellness – they are writing a memo to the Board of Ed to start a new policy of “no food rewards” in the classroom for the entire district
Council Meeting – subject was bullying becoming a misdemeanor if you are just watching or turn a blind eye to bullying in the schools.
Dr. Ain will have a workshop on bullying. Dr. Simmons and Mr. McNeil give a “no bullying” speech at the start of each new school year. They are also dealing with cyber bullying with things like Facebook and Formspring.
Beautification – A great deal has been done this year. The new bench will be bolted down.
yearbook - is done and in publication. Distribution is set for sometime in the middle of June.
